Activities for Summer

Easby Abbey

Summer is the hottest of the four seasons. The earliest sunrise and latest sunset occur, the longest day and shortest night. What better reason is there to make memories?

Great Activities for Summer

Now is the best time to take advantage of the long sunny days by exploring the natural world. Here are some great nature-based ideas:

  • Bird Watching
  • Plant and grow fresh herbs
  • Look for shapes in the clouds
  • Make a bird feeder
  • Make Fairy houses
  • Pick your own fruit
  • Plant a butterfly garden
  • Pack a picnic
  • Visit a farmers market
  • Collect rocks and paint them
  • Decorate walkways with chalk
  • Climb trees together
  • Go for a walk
  • Skip stones
  • Stargaze

These are just some of my favourites. What do your family get up to in Summer? Please, please, please invite me along.

June

The sun is rich

And gladly pays

In golden hours,

Silver days,

And long green weeks

That never end.

School’s out.

The time is ours to spend.

There’s little league,

Hopscotch, the creek,

And, after supper,

Hide-and-seek.

The live-long light

Is like a dream,

And freckles come

Like flies to cream.
