Our outdoor autumn family sessions usually involve a simple nature walk. This helps you and your children get comfortable with me and my camera. Once we are at ease with one another; we can create natural portraits of you and your children having fun. Capturing you as you know each other best.
Choosing your own location helps this transition. You can provide input and insight, making your session and the resulting images more personal and sentimental to you. And I get to discover beautiful locations I may not have come across without incredible clients and their marvellous suggestions.
Woodlands are amazing in Autumn. All the tonal range you could want. Red, orange, yellow and green. I am lucky enough to have a magical woodland on my doorstep.
What to Wear
It’s important to dress appropriately, the last thing you want is to be miserable and cold. Layers work well.
In early Autumn the weather may still be mild and light jackets can be enough. Autumn jackets are flattering for all. Your clothing will create style and individuality to your stories and memories.
Late October and into November the weather usually begins to change and that brings a chill to the air. Hats, scarves, boots, or wellies create a cosy feel. And as a bonus, the more layers you wear, the more variety we can create.
If we have decided on woodland, appropriate footwear is a must.
When to Book
October and November are the best time to get the range of colours, for the most beautiful autumnal images.
Mid to late afternoon is my favourite time of day. We want to catch that golden light, especially if we’re lucky enough to catch some sunlight.
As I’m sure you’re aware, autumn in the UK can mean unpredictable weather. I often check and double check several weather apps and websites before we set off.
The decision to cancel due to the weather is not taken lightly. In most cases, unless a torrential downpour, I am often willing to still attempt it. After all its about creating something unique and fun.
It’s also good to be prepared for rainy days. Umbrellas, towels, blankets, maybe even a change of clothes just in case.
The final decision is ultimately yours. But I wouldn’t dismiss a rainy day too soon. It could be a great distraction, especially for younger children. Who doesn’t love jumping in puddles and dancing in the rain? Fun can be infectious if you let your inner child play.
I would love to come along on a family walk with you and your loves.

Why Is Photography Important?
I’ve read that children feel safe, welcome, seen and loved if there are images of themselves in the family home. I love this idea and think this is something every family needs to know.
You see stories, memories and keepsakes are important. Life is short. Our humanity is what makes us beautiful. The light will never look or be seen the same again and neither will we. We will never have this moment again.
So, let’s capture it!
