Coast to Coast – April

Beadnell Bay

I had been longing for this trip to the coast, I think this may be my favourite stretch of coastline.

Beadnell Bay

Beadnell Bay is a beautiful sandy beach located in beautiful Northumberland. Renowned for its water sports. I’m hoping we become regulars, especially to use our Topper.

It’s also an area that is great for walkers, being part of the Northumberland Heritage Coast and you can even visit the nearby Farne Islands, a dream for any naturalists out there.

Our Visit

We began our visit further down the coastline, a rocky cove just behind some small cliffs on the edge of the bay. This gave us the perfect opportunity to let the dogs run free, without worry of Oscar’s antics. Lexi at 11 was just loving life.

I was feeling quite reflective on this particular visit to the coast. Incredibly aware; this is how memories are formed. I wanted to remember all the details. The parts of the coast that make it life giving, the parts that seep into all the senses. I took the time to document and focus on everything that creates those feelings and intense memories. The smell of the salt air, the texture of the rock, the sound of the wind in the reeds, the feeling of your feet sinking in the sand.

Meditation Paradise

My boys clearly felt it too, especially when Harvey announced it was the perfect place to meditate. He was completely right!

“The sea does not reward those who are too anxious, too greedy, or too impatient. To dig for treasures shows not only impatience and greed, but lack of faith. Patience, patience, patience, is what the sea teaches. Patience and faith. One should lie empty, open, choiceless as a beach—waiting for a gift from the sea.” Anne Morrow Lindbergh, from A Gift from the Sea.

Welcome to our Coast-to-Coast loop. We are a group of photographers from around the world, from time zones as far flung as Australia to Canada and in between, each with a different seascape. Coast to Coast aims to document our changing sea views and perspectives – both literal and philosophical – of what the sea means to us, month to month through the changing seasons.
