Wharton Park is located next to Durham railway station, in the north of the city centre. There is lots to do for all the family and stunning views over Durham.
The park was created by William Lloyd Wharton. He inherited the land on which the park and railway was built.
He built the battery as a lookout over the railway and the city. Both opened in 1857.
Durham Ghosts
Durham castle is said to be haunted by two ghosts.
Climb the back staircase and you may encounter the Grey Lady. Said to be the wife of a 19th Century bishop of Durham, who fell to her death from its topmost heights.
When the university first opened in the 19th Century one student stood out as ambitious. On results day he found his name was not on the list of students who passed. He paced his room for hours before taking his own life. He was in fact, top of his class, awarded the highest honours possible. His name was hidden by another piece of paper. It is said you can hear him pacing his room in anguish.

Lucky Daffodils
Daffodils are considered lucky flowers. If you make the deliberate effort not to step on them and crush them, fortune will favour you.
If you give someone a gift of daffodils, they’ll have good luck. Make sure you give a bunch, as a single flower brings misfortune.
If you spot the first daffodil of spring, you’ll see more gold than silver come to your home over the coming year.

Ostara
Ostara celebrates the Spring Equinox. A sacred time of fertility, life, birth and re-birth.
Legend has it the goddess Ostara or Eostre brought a bird back to life as a white hair, and gave it the power to lay eggs one day a year.
Do you recognise any familiar symbols in this tale? Hares and rabbits are associated with fertility, due to the number of offspring they have. Spring flowers are a symbol of life, with daffodils bringing the first touches of colour.
Enchantment isn’t about Magical thinking; it is about being fully present in the world.

March = Wharton Park, Durham

I am standing amid an aliveness, and that aliveness deserves my attention, my respect, my care …
The insects and birds and animals are singing themselves into being; this autumn land is dreaming and I am part of that dreaming.
Why is Photography Important?
I’ve read that children feel safe, welcome, seen and loved if there are images of themselves in the family home. I love this idea and think this is something every family needs to know.
You see stories, memories and keepsakes are important. Life is short. Our humanity is what makes us beautiful. The light will never look or be seen the same again and neither will we. We will never have this moment again.
So, let’s capture it!

Hi,
I’m Lesley-Anne, also known as LAL.
Our humanity is what makes us beautiful.
The light will never look the same or be seen the same again and neither will we.
We will never have this moment again.
So, let’s capture it!
